RS Tower is located in a small midwestern town, and controls the crossing of two main lines. The busiest of these is a CTC controlled main line that goes from single to double track at the interlocking, the quieter consists of a single track that winds its way through town. There are local industries on both routes, served from a small yard that is served by both companies.
So this coming weekend we trek north to Barrow in Furness for the Furness MRC’s show, open to the public on the 8th and 9th October – come along and say hi! Show details are on the Furness MRC’s website here: http://furnessmrc.webs.com/exhibition.htm
The following weekend we’re at the NMRA convention in Bournmouth – again if you’re attending then come and say hi – show details for that one are here: http://www.bournemouthbelle2011.org.uk/
Eagle eyed viewers may already have noticed the new transition era images on our flickr site via the links on the right, all shot at our visit to Peco – the images are courtesy of Brian Moore who helped out and brought some of his excellent 1950s Southern Pacific stock to run – also worth checking out is his YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/BrianXMoore
And last, but certainly not least RS Tower features as the ‘Plan of the Month’ in the October issue of Continental Modeller – available at all good newsagents now!
Just a heads-up for anyone coming to Peco for their steam gala do at the weekend, we will be in the gallery with RS Tower and a handful of modules all weekend, and just for a change we’ll be in transition era guise for the first time to (hopefully) complement with some (little) big steam of our own!
We’ve just returned from the Exeter Model Railway Show. Eastbound:- Cab ride from Oakdale to the cement plant at RS East at the 2011 Exeter show, filmed on the our layout and modules. Modules in order are Oakdale, Gillsburgh (loco terminal), Dale Yard, Oak Creek (bridge), Emmery Crossing, Emmery, Depot curve, RSX (flat crossing), Alpha (start double track), Crosskeys (swing bridge), Bridge curve, Sterling Yard, farm and crossing curves, followed by the RS Tower layout, finishing up at the cement works. Power is a Genesis F45. The layout won the layout operators choice awards, so thanks to all our crew of helpers for making such a great show possible! Westbound:- Cab ride from staging to the end of the line at Oakdale, shot on our modular model railroad setup at the Exeter show 2011. Starting in Staging we pass through the RS Tower layout, the interlocking there and the commercial bakery called Big Donut, we then swing left onto the modules – in order Crossing curve, farm curve, Sterling yard, bridge curve (start double track), Crosskeys swing bridge, Alpha (end double track), RSX (flat crossing), depot curve, Emmery and Emmery Crossing, Oak Creek (bridge), Dale Yard, Gillsburgh (engine terminal) and Oakdale.
Also myself & Martyn will be at the Trent Valley North American show on June 11th 2011. we will be taking Alpha, S.Kedzie Ave & half of Dale Yard, Era – post 2000 Details can be found here Hope to see you all there?
Normally we’d leave announcements on our Freemo engagements to our sister RSTowerFreemo site, but on the 5th/6th June our Freemo modules will be in operation at the Exe MRS show at Exeter, see their website for more details.
We’re debuting several new modules this year including Gillsburgh by Ian Smith as well as established modules such as Neil Rogers’ Oakdale, they will form a 60′ long end-to-end run between a pair of small yards, frequent local passenger and freight moves should feature.
We’re a little bit short of staff this year so RS Tower and it’s big trains are not featuring as part of this display, but we’re planning lots of operation so it’s still well coming for a look and a chat about modules, DCC, operations or any of the other things we get up to. And if anyone wants to come for a play let us know! 🙂
We’re working on a major showing with both RS Tower and a substantial Freemo presence combined for the 2011 Exeter show, it will be worth making a note in your diaries as we’ll be creating something that will be able to absorb lots of operators!
This blog should now be linked in to www.rmweb.co.uk and viewable from there – a great set of forums and well worth a look. I previously had a workbench thread on a previous incarnation (which is visible at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=24051 if you want to look back at the archives) but the new system should allow updates to link across from here to there.
So, hello there to all the RMWebbers!
Right, admin-ish stuff out of the way, proper content to follow. 🙂
Saturday 23rd/Sunday 24th May (the weekend before we attend Exeter show) we will be holding an open-house at Hittisleigh village hall – Hittisleigh is located just a short distance from the A30, part way between Exeter and Okehampton:
The venue will be open from 10.00AM until 4.30PM (or maybe even longer if we’re having fun!)
Admission is FREE! But donations to the upkeep of the hall are welcome.
The local village ladies will be selling tea’s, coffee’s and cakes – and if you’re dragging along a partner who isn’t into trains then there is a craft display a short walk to the North at the village church.
